PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across four states and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, effective until 4pm on Saturday (Oct 10).
In Peninsular Malaysia, the afternoon weather alert covers Kemaman and Dungun in Terengganu, alongside Pekan and Rompin in Pahang.
In the central region, severe weather is forecast for major parts of Selangor, including Sabak Bernam, Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Kuala Selangor, Klang and Petaling, as well as the entire area of WP Kuala Lumpur.
Over in East Malaysia, the alert covers Sebuyau and Asajaya in Samarahan, Sarawak, while in Sabah, storms are expected in Tawau, Semporna, Kalabakan and Kunak.
MetMalaysia issues these warnings when there are signs indicating a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for any single release.
The notice was officially issued by the department at 11.50am on Saturday.
