Nga makes Hari Raya promise to 'sick' project house owners in Bukit Katil

KUALA LUMPUR: Buyers of Residensi Bukit Katil in Melaka – the last “sick” project under Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia (PR1MA) – will receive their house keys before Hari Raya Aidilfitri, says Nga Kor Ming.

The Housing and Local Government Minister said the project obtained its Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC), marking a milestone for the Housing and Local Government Ministry in resolving all problematic and abandoned PR1MA schemes.

“This is a historic moment for the ministry as we have achieved our target of completing all sick and abandoned projects under PR1MA,” he told the Dewan Rakyat when winding up the debate on the Motion of Thanks for the Royal Address for the ministry on Wednesday (Feb 4).

“Previously, under the former government, there were 34 sick PR1MA projects. Some were already in the ICU and CCU.

“I chose this significant date to announce that the last sick project in Bukit Katil has now received its CCC. We have managed to save more than 40,000 units, all of which were inherited from the previous government, including friends on the other side,” he said.

Nga gave his assurance that keys for all affected owners at Residensi Bukit Katil will be handed over before Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

“I am working hard before Hari Raya – a promise made is a promise kept. All the projects have been fully completed. The keys will be handed over before Raya,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said Malaysia’s home ownership rate has reached 76.5%, higher than countries such as Australia and the United States.

He said most middle-income (M40) households would inevitably take housing loans, and the government was rolling out various measures to ease their burden and help more families own homes.

“The home ownership rate for Malaysian families has reached 76.5%. Australia is only about 60%, while the United States is further behind. But in Malaysia, 76.5% of families already own their own homes. Of course, the M40 will have to take housing loans,” he said.

“That is why under the ministry we have introduced various initiatives to help,” he added.

Nga said the Skim Jaminan Kredit Perumahan (SJKP) guarantee scheme had been significantly expanded, with a total guarantee capacity of RM40bil under the current Budget.

“So far, with the government’s effort through SJKP, we have helped 97,850 people obtain housing loans. What is special about this scheme? If you borrow RM100,000 from the bank, you can get a loan of RM120,000.

“The extra 20% can be used for renovation or to buy furniture,” he said, adding that an additional RM10bil in guarantees was provided under this year’s Budget to push the total to RM40bil.
