PAS leader wants ceasefire with Bersatu so PN can 'continue our journey'

KUALA LUMPUR: After a month-long war of words between Bersatu and PAS over Perikatan Nasional leadership issues, a PAS leader has called for a ceasefire.

PAS assistant secretary-general Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman urged both sides to leave it to the top leaders to hold an immediate full leadership council meeting of the coalition.

He drew parallels between Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation as Perikatan chairman on Jan 1 as "losing our bus driver".

"It has interrupted our journey... our passengers are feeling restless and families (the rakyat) are waiting. We only want to continue our journey," he said in a Facebook post on Sunday (Feb 1).

He added that there was no need to openly write about "private" matters but instead, discuss them in a council meeting.

He was commenting on recent remarks by Muhyiddin’s former principal private secretary Datuk Dr Marzuki Mohamad and Bersatu information chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz over Perikatan’s chairmanship.

In December, Muhyiddin announced his resignation as chairman effective Jan 1, resulting in a back-and-forth between Bersatu and PAS.

Muhyiddin recently said that Bersatu and PAS have agreed to do away with the post of Perikatan chairman – a claim which PAS leaders later rejected.
