PAS no-show as Muhyiddin chairs 4th IPR meeting

SHAH ALAM: The fourth meeting of the Ikatan Prihatin Rakyat (IPR) on Thursday focused on the direction of the Perikatan Nasional, which is still unclear.

According to Parti Berjasa president Zamani Ibrahim, the meeting highlighted the concerns of the parties in the IPR regarding the current situation in Perikatan.

"Of the 11 or 12 parties involved, we voiced concerns about the direction of Perikatan, which is still uncertain," he told Sinar Harian when contacted on the progress of the leaders' meeting in the IPR for the fourth time held on Thursday (Jan 29).

Among those present at the IPR coalition meeting were Gerakan president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai and Pejuang president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.

Also participating were Putra president Datuk Dr Ibrahim Ali and MAP president P. Waytha Moorthy, as well as several other party leaders.

However, one notably absent party was PAS, which not only missed the IPR meeting but also did not turn up for the subsequent Perikatan meeting.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin also shared a video of the meeting session on his Facebook page on the same day.

Zamani explained that, despite being in the IPR, the parties involved are also together in Perikatan, chaired by Muhyiddin, even though the Bersatu president has resigned from Perikatan.

He explained that the discussion was conducted at length to obtain an official explanation, without relying on media reports.

"This issue has an impact on the people's confidence in Perikatan's ability to lead the country if given a mandate in the 16th General Election (GE16)," he added.

He explained that Muhyiddin informed that the direction of Perikatan has not yet been finalised, and discussions were still ongoing, and the IPR emphasised that the final decision must be reached through consensus of all parties involved.
