Woman found dead, boyfriend critically injured in Taman Damai house

BATU PAHAT: A 41-year-old woman was found dead in a rented house in Taman Damai here, while her boyfriend was discovered critically injured at the scene.

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said police were alerted after the victim’s family reported that she had been unreachable for three days.

“At about 12.30am on Friday (Jan 30) morning, a team from the Batu Pahat district police headquarters, accompanied by the victim’s family and the owner of the rented house, forced entry into the premises as the door was locked from the inside.

“Fire and Rescue Department personnel assisted police in breaking into the house,” he said.

ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat added that upon entering one of the rooms, police found the victim, a local woman, and a 44-year-old local man lying side by side on a bed.

A medical officer from Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail later confirmed that the woman was dead, while the man, believed to be her boyfriend, was found in critical condition after sustaining slash wounds to his neck and wrists.

ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat added that initial investigations indicated that the suspect is believed to have murdered the woman before injuring himself.

The motive for the incident remains under investigation.

The suspect has been remanded for seven days until Feb 5 to help with investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
