Immigration lorry crash: Driver charged with causing deaths of three in family


KUALA LUMPUR: A lorry driver who drove a "Black Maria" belonging to the Immigration Department has been charged at a Magistrate's Court here with five counts, including reckless driving that caused the death of three family members.

Mohd Akbar Zainol, 43, pleaded not guilty to all charges after they were read out before magistrate Aliaa Anwar.

For the first until third charges, Mohd Akbar was accused of driving a "Black Maria" lorry dangerously and causing the death of Shaik Mohd Firdaus Shaikh Yahya, 53, and his two daughters Siti Norshazlin, 24, and Siti Darwisyah Auni, 12, at Jalan Sultan Ismail, at 1am, Aug 19.
