New Kinabatangan MP sworn in

MOHD Kurniawan Naim Moktar (pic) has been sworn in as the new Kinabatangan MP.

The newly elected member of the Dewan Rakyat stood tall as he took his oath of office in front of Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul yesterday.

Mohd Kurniawan replaced his late father, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, who had held the seat for six terms until his death on Dec 5 last year at the age of 66, which left the seat vacant.

“I hope you will be able to continue the long legacy of your father to bring meaningful contributions to Dewan Rakyat as well as to the people and the country.

“May you serve with dedication and excellence,” Johari said after congratulating Mohd Kurniawan.

Having represented Barisan Nasional, Mohd Kurniawan managed to secure a decisive majority of 14,214 votes to win the three-cornered fight on the Jan 24 by-election.

He garnered 19,852 votes, triumphing over Parti Warisan candidate Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman, who received 5,638 votes, and Independent candidate Goldam Hamid, who only managed 746 votes.
