MACC nabs Tan Sri, company director over alleged RM300mil investment scam

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has remanded a Tan Sri to assist in investigations into an alleged investment scam involving more than RM300mil.

Sources said the four-day remand order until Jan 25 was issued against the male suspect, who is in his 60s, by Magistrate Ezrene Zakariah following an application by the MACC at the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (Jan 22).

Meanwhile, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.

Azam was previously reported as saying that the suspect, who is also the owner of a private company and an Islamic finance expert, was arrested after arriving at the commission’s headquarters in Putrajaya yesterday.

Azam added a woman in her 50s, a board director of the same investment company, also had been arrested a day earlier.

He said many victims from across the country were reported to have lost hundreds of millions of ringgit after being duped in the investment scam over the past two years.

Azam advised the public to remain cautious and not to be easily lured into investment schemes that could ultimately result in financial losses.
