Cops identify two victims of car fire at Jitra toll plaza


JITRA: The identities of two victims who died after their car caught fire after a crash at the Jitra toll plaza on the North-South Expressway have been confirmed.

In a statement on Monday (Jan 19), Kubang Pasu police chief Supt Mohd Radzi Abdul Rahim said the driver has been identified as Pang Seng Chin, 20, from Jalan Padang Telela Pauh, Arau, Perlis, while the passenger was Tan Hui Shan, 19, from Jalan Bukit Dumbar, Jelutong, Penang.

He said further checks revealed that Pang was a businessman, while Tan was unemployed. Both victims were confirmed dead at the scene.

Mohd Radzi said that in the 1.15am incident, the driver of the car is believed to have lost control of the vehicle before it crashed into the toll lane divider, overturned and caught fire.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – Bernama
