Fatal road incidents on Christmas claim lives of three motorcyclists in Johor Baru

JOHOR BARU: Police confirmed three fatal road accidents occurred on Christmas Day in the area, resulting in the deaths of three motorcyclists within a few hours.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the accidents occurred between 4.40am and 1.56pm on Thursday (Dec 25) at different locations in its jurisdiction.

In the first incident, a 29-year-old local man was killed after his motorcycle skidded off the road at KM7.9 of the Pasir Gudang Highway at about 4.40am.

“The victim, who worked as a restaurant waiter, was on his way home to Kota Tinggi from his workplace in Iskandar Puteri,” he said here on Friday (Dec 26).

He added that initial investigations found that weather conditions were good and traffic was light at the time of the incident.

“The motorcyclist is believed to have lost control of his motorcycle before skidding and falling onto the road. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene due to head injuries,” he said.

In the second case, ACP Raub said a fatal collision involving a motorcycle and a van occurred at about 5.50am at the junction of Jalan Rahmat and Jalan Utama in Kampung Melayu Majidee.

He added that the motorcycle, ridden by a 30-year-old unemployed local man, was travelling straight along Jalan Utama with a pillion rider when it was hit by a van entering the junction.

“The van was driven by a 40-year-old local man who works as a logistics officer,” he said.

ACP Raub said the motorcyclist died at the scene after sustaining head injuries, while the pillion rider suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Hospital Sultanah Aminah for treatment.

Meanwhile, he added that the third fatal accident occurred at about 1.56pm at the junction of Jalan Desa Mutiara 6 and Jalan Persiaran Desa Mutiara.

ACP Raub said the incident involved a motorcycle ridden by a 76-year-old local man who was unemployed and believed to be on his way to a surau to perform Zohor prayers.

“Initial investigations revealed that the victim was travelling straight from Jalan Persiaran Desa Mutiara when he is believed to have lost control and veered into the opposite lane,” he added.

ACP Raub said the motorcycle then collided with a moving Toyota Vellfire and a Perodua Alza that was parked on the left road shoulder.

“The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was sent to Hospital Sultan Ismail for a post-mortem,” he said, adding that all three cases are being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

ACP Raub urged those who witnessed the incidents or have information to contact the Johor Baru South district police traffic division at 07-227 7566 to assist investigations.

He also advised all road users to exercise caution at all times, obey traffic laws, ensure their vehicles are in good condition and remain alert to their surroundings to prevent unwanted accidents.
