PETALING JAYA: The mother and sister of Yap Shing Xuen, a Form Four student who was fatally stabbed on Oct 14, 2025, have filed a civil suit in the Kuala Lumpur High Court against several parties over her death.
The suit was filed on Oct 1 through the law firm of Messrs Surendra Ananth, with Wong Lee Ping, Yap's mother, confirming the legal action in a statement on Saturday (Oct 3).

Named defendants include several government agencies, the parents of the teenage boy accused of killing Yap, as well as the teenager himself.
Wong said the family believed the tragedy could have been prevented if relevant parties had taken appropriate measures, particularly to address mental health issues among students.
"This is not about revenge. It is about ensuring that the relevant parties are held accountable so that such an incident does not happen to another child," she said.

Wong said the suit also named the teenager's parents as defendants, alleging that there had been warning signs and that parents have a responsibility to ensure their children does not harm others.
She also highlighted the need for comprehensive implementation of mental health policies among schoolchildren.
Recalling the day of the incident, Wong said Yap had left for school on Oct 14, 2025, expecting her daughter to return home as usual.
"But that day, I lost a daughter and my eldest child lost her younger sister.
"No mother or sister should have to go through what we have endured. We want those responsible to be brought to justice," she said.
