PETALING JAYA: The Attorney-General's Chambers has filed an appeal over the decision by the Shah Alam High Court to acquit a 15-year-old teenager of a murder charge.
In a statement issued on Thursday (Sept 24), the AGC said the appeal was filed at the Court of Appeal on Tuesday.
The AGC said it had thoroughly considered the decision made by the High Court judge before filing the appeal.
The teenager, who was charged with killing 16-year-old Yap Shing Xuen in Bandar Utama on Oct 14 last year, was acquitted on the grounds of insanity last Monday.
Following the decision, the victim's mother had called on supporters to sign a petition to seek an appeal by the AGC.
The teenager is said to be undergoing treatment and counselling at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta until medical authorities assess him as fit to rejoin society.
