PETALING JAYA: A total of RM5.34bil has been allocated for defence assets under Budget 2027 to strengthen the capabilities and operational readiness of the Armed Forces.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the allocation was part of the RM22.11bil provided to the Defence Ministry, an increase of RM361.95mil or 1.66% compared with 2026.
“Of the total allocation, RM14.523bil is for operating expenditure while RM7.585bil is for development expenditure,” he said in the statement on Friday (Oct 9).
Khaled said the allocation for defence assets was intended to strengthen the MAF's ability to safeguard the country's sovereignty and security.
The Budget 2027 allocation also includes RM957.30mil for Armed Forces housing to provide personnel and their families with better and more comfortable living conditions.
For military veterans, RM304mil has been allocated for the management of the Veterans Affairs Department (JHEV).
Khaled said the minimum pension rate would be increased from RM1,000 to RM1,350 per month, benefiting nearly 59,000 recipients, including retired military personnel and derivative pension recipients.
He said the ministry was committed to ensuring that the allocations were managed transparently, prudently and effectively to strengthen the MAF's readiness and safeguard the welfare of its personnel, their families and veterans.
“National defence is a major responsibility that must continue to be upheld for the security of the people, the sovereignty of the country and Malaysia's future,” he said.
