JOHOR BARU: An 18-year-old driver was arrested after allegedly ramming a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) into a motorcyclist, dragging the man’s wife and reversing into a drain.
Seri Alam deputy OCPD Supt G. Victor said the incident occurred in a residential area in Taman Johor Jaya at about 6pm on Wednesday.
“The incident began when a motorcyclist allegedly obstructed the path of the MPV.
“The MPV driver was said to have honked repeatedly, leading to a misunderstanding and a subsequent physical altercation between the two,” he said in a statement.
Supt Victor said the driver later rammed the MPV into the motorcyclist, causing injuries to the victim and damage to his motorcycle.
“The pillion rider, who is the motorcyclist’s wife, also sustained minor injuries after she was dragged by the MPV during the incident.
“The motorcyclist was admitted to Hospital Sultan Ismail with minor injuries,” he said, adding that the victim is in stable condition.
Supt Victor said the youth was detained at about 9.40pm on Thursday.
He said the suspect has no prior criminal record and tested negative for drugs following a urine screening.
The suspect has been remanded for seven days starting Friday to assist in investigations, including for driving recklessly and for lodging a false police report regarding the incident.
The case is also being investigated under Section 307 (attempted murder), Section 506 (criminal intimidation), Section 160 (fighting) and Section 182 (lodging false report) of the Penal Code, as well as Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
A 32-second video circulating on social media shows the MPV crashing into the motorcyclist and his motorcycle.
The pillion rider is seen confronting the driver through the open car door before being dragged as the vehicle reversed into a drain in front of a row of houses.
A video from another angle caught on dashcam of a passing vehicle shows the MPV driver and motorcyclist brawling following an argument, before the driver rammed his vehicle into the motorcyclist.
