Bentong fatal crash: Police detain luxury car driver

KUANTAN: Police have detained a man to assist in the investigation into a fatal accident involving three vehicles that claimed the lives of a married couple at KM4 Kampung Ketari, Bentong, on Wednesday (Dec 10).

Pahang deputy police chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob said the 40-year-old man, who was driving a luxury car, will be remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He said initial investigations revealed that the car driven by the suspect was travelling from Bentong towards Kuala Lumpur, while a car carrying a family of three and a second car were coming from the opposite direction.

"Upon reaching a bend at the scene, the suspect is believed to have veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with the Proton Saga before losing control and hitting another vehicle on the side," he said in a statement on Thursday (Dec 11).

He added that the impact of the crash caused two passengers in the Proton Saga, a husband and wife, both aged 51, to die at the scene, while the driver, who was their son, sustained serious head injuries.

The victim was initially taken to Bentong Hospital before being referred to Temerloh Hospital for further treatment.

"The driver of the luxury car did not sustain serious injuries, while the driver of the second car also escaped unhurt,” he said, adding that the suspect’s urine test returned negative, and a blood sample was taken for further toxicology analysis.
