Malaysia's development agenda centres on well-rounded technical professionals, says Works Minister

JOHOR BARU: Technical professionals must remain at the heart of Malaysia’s development agenda, particularly as the country navigates rapid technological change, said Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

“They carry a major responsibility in determining the direction of the nation’s future,” he said at the opening of the National Technical Professions Day (HPTN) 2025 held at Persada International Convention Centre here on Wednesday (Dec 10).

He said the ministry was focusing on developing well-rounded technical professionals who are not only competent and innovative but also ethical, socially aware and guided by integrity.

“These are the wholesome technical professionals we want for our nation,” he said.

Nanta said the adoption of technologies was transforming the construction sector by improving safety, precision and productivity.

He added that the host of HPTN 2025, Johor, had received RM11.43bil in Federal funding this year, with RM10.24bil allocated for pre-construction and construction projects, while RM1.19bil was set aside for maintenance.

“These investments are about shaping a strong future for Johor and supporting continuous national growth,” he said.

Nanta also said discussions with Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi on Nov 26 had paved the way for closer cooperation on infrastructure projects between the ministry and state government under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK-13).
