TAIWANESE singer Wakin Chau was recently spotted at an airport in Guangdong, China, making a rare public appearance with his wife of 40 years, Constance Woods.

The 64-year-old singer and his wife were dressed in matching black outfits, drawing warm comments from onlookers who said they looked like an affectionate older couple still very much in love, Sin Chew Daily reported.

But when photos of the pair were shared online, some Internet users remarked that Woods, with her natural grey hair, looked more like Chau’s mother than his spouse. It was not the first time Woods has faced harsh scrutiny as the wife of a popular singer.

Chau first met the American-born Woods in Taiwan in 1985 when he was still a bar musician.

The two, who share the same birthday on Dec 22, 1960, quickly fell in love and married a year later. As Chau’s fame surged in the 1990s, some fans reacted negatively to his marriage.

Woods received a barrage of calls from overzealous fans urging her to leave Chau, causing immense stress that eventually led to depression.

At the height of his career, Chau took a year off to support her recovery and save their marriage.

Their recent appearance together received an outpouring of support from fans, who saw it as a testament to the couple’s enduring love and the effort they have put into sustaining their relationship.
