REFUSING to curry favour with his superiors allegedly led to a brutal assault on a Chinese national working in Selangor.
Chen, a 37-year-old electrician, said the incident happened at a factory in Kajang on Aug 11, China Press reported.
As he was preparing to head home, Chen was instructed to move equipment into a storeroom where he claims he was ambushed by three superiors, all from China as well.
According to Chen, they attacked him with a wooden bat and a large battery, beating him so severely that he fainted. He later showed reporters injuries to the back of his head and on his leg.
Chen said that after regaining consciousness, he attempted to escape but blacked out again, only waking up later in a hospital.
He was told that one of the assailants had taken him there.
Chen claimed the assault stemmed from his refusal to ingratiate himself with the three men, who he said had been making his life miserable by rejecting his leave applications, forcing him to work more than 24 hours straight and withholding overtime payments.
Despite lodging reports with his company, the Labour Department, the police and the Chinese embassy, Chen said no action had been taken. He believes the attackers are being shielded by higher-ups in the company.
By going to the media, Chen said he hopes to see the three men held accountable.
> A woman in China’s Guangdong province narrowly escaped a fatal fall after she was seen scaling the side of a high-rise building in what appeared to be an attempt to flee, Sin Chew Daily reported.
The incident occurred at a flat in Guangzhou on Nov 30, when a shirtless man was caught on video helping a woman in a white top and skirt climb out of his window.
He was then seen quickly shutting the curtains as she struggled to find a foothold.
Realising she could not reach, the woman edged along a narrow ledge toward a large drainpipe.
Footage showed her nearly losing her grip while attempting to slide down the pipe to the lower floor. Fortunately, a man in a neighbouring unit spotted her and opened his window, pulling her to safety.
