Be responsible, keep public facilities clean, says Onn Hafiz on Johor water park closure

JOHOR BARU: The public must take greater responsibility in caring for public facilities, says Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, following irresponsible acts that prompted the temporary closure of a water park here.

Onn Hafiz said the facility at Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) Hutan Bandar had to be closed for two days starting Thursday (March 26) to make way for cleaning and maintenance work.

He said the facility, which includes a pool for children, was developed so it can be enjoyed by everyone, ensuring no one is left behind.

“However, it is deeply disappointing that some visitors remain irresponsible, allowing their children to defecate and failing to maintain the cleanliness of the area.

“Such actions not only pollute the environment but also pose health risks to other visitors, especially young children,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday (March 26).

He also reminded parents that they play a significant role in instilling manners and responsibility in their children, especially in public.

“Therefore, we should set a good example, teach them the importance of maintaining cleanliness, respecting public facilities, and being mindful of others’ comfort.

“These small values will help shape a more courteous and responsible generation in the future.

“The actions of a few should not affect a good public amenity. Hutan Bandar belongs to all of us, so let us protect, appreciate and use it responsibly,” he added.

In a statement on Wednesday (March 25), MBJB said the newly upgraded water park at Hutan Bandar MBJB was closed barely two days after it was opened to the public due to vandalism.

The water park, located within the Hutan Bandar recreational area, was opened on Monday (March 23) following an upgrade.
