KANGAR: Post-flood rehabilitation efforts at a college here received a boost with help from the “Ihsan Madani: Wira Kesuma” squad.

Human Resources Ministry secretary-general Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof said the focus at Kolej Teknologi Termaju Jabatan Tenaga Manusia (ADTEC JTM) was on clean-up work, repairs and providing welfare aid to the affected staff and students.

He said this follows the activation of a special committee, involving the technical team and operations room, to assess the impact of floods on agencies under the ministry, Bernama reported. He added that Perlis was identified as the worst-hit area.

Azman said that ministry personnel went to the scene to assess the type of immediate assistance needed after the campus faced significant flood damage.

“We came to have a look at the damage and identify the type of immediate aid that can be given, including for the welfare of the staff members and their families.

“Floods affected almost 50% of the training institution’s area, spanning over 46ha. We want to ensure there is no hindrance to the students’ learning process.

“Examinations that were postponed will resume in the middle of this month, and the facilities must be repaired as soon as possible,” he said yesterday.

Azman said the clean-up and repair work in the administrative building, dormitories, resource centre and training facilities yesterday involved 180 volunteers under the ministry as well as 106 students from the campus.

“In addition, the ministry’s disaster fund also channelled RM1,500 for the purchase of cleaning equipment, while RM500 from the Wakalah Zakat Kelab Kesuma fund was distributed to the affected ADTEC staff.

“Several local companies, including Syarikat Air Perlis, also collaborated by providing free manpower and equipment,” he said.
