Sabah polls: 31.3% voter turnout as of 11am, slight dip from GE15, says EC

Results of the 17th Sabah state elections should trickle in by 10pm and the full outcome should be known by 12am, said Election Commission Chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun

PAPAR: Voter turnout in the 17th Sabah State Election was at 31.3% as of 11am Saturday (Nov 29), says Election Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun.

According to Ramlan, this was slightly lower than the 32% recorded by this time in the 15th General Election in November 2022.

"We hope the good weather will last until evening. We are expecting voter turnout to be around 60% compared to the previous 65% (in GE15).

"We are concerned that the heavy rain could reduce the turnout," he said when met after inspecting the SK Kawang polling centre in Papar.

Ramlan also said 603 offences had been recorded during the 14-day campaign period.

Of that number, 81 were police reports, while five were logged by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

"Action will be taken by the relevant agencies," he added.

Ramlan said the EC only addresses minor offences such as those involving campaign materials, and had acted in cases of inappropriate posters being put up.
