PUTRAJAYA: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has urged the organisers of the RXZ Members programme to tighten their participant registration process as part of efforts to improve safety at future events.
JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the department had held an engagement session with the RXZ Members organisers on Wednesday to provide recommendations following issues arising from their recent programme in Terengganu from July 30 to Aug 2.
“We gave our views and made several recommendations for improvements at future programmes,” he told reporters after an engagement session with the media here yesterday.
He said the department had previously warned it would not support the programme if serious issues continued to surface.
He said JPJ’s enforcement division had also advised the organisers to ensure participants provide more information during registration, including details such as driving licences and motor vehicle licences.
Aedy Fadly said the organisers had no objection to JPJ’s recommendations, and added that the organisers had already taken several steps to ensure participants complied with regulations.
“However, there are still some participants who do not comply with the rules, and this has tarnished the image of the programme,” he said.
He said the organisers had previously met with both JPJ and the police before the programme was held in Terengganu.
“We saw several issues involving a small number of participants who did not comply. So, we are trying another approach by recommending that the organisers implement a more comprehensive registration process, and we will see how it goes,” he said, adding that while there is an existing registration system, it was mainly for administrative purposes such as distributing souvenirs and lucky draws.
Previously, Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Comm Datuk Seri Muhammed Hasbullah Ali had said 46 road accidents involving motorcyclists were recorded during the four-day RXZ Members 8.0 programme, with 11 of the cases involving fatalities.
