EIGHT homeowners in Pontian, Johor, are seeking compensation for damages to their homes which they claim was caused by vibrations from lorries carrying construction waste from Singapore, reported Kosmo!
Residents, who live in Kampung Simpang Kiri, said the heavy vibrations from the frequent movement of lorries has caused cracks in their homes over the past two years.
The homes are located about 50m from the Pekan Nanas-Tanjung Piai road, which was frequently used by heavy vehicles.
Despite the land reclamation activity involving waste having stopped, they said the residual damage had cost residents thousands of ringgit to repair.
One of the residents Wahab Wahid, 58, said he had spent more than RM7,000 repairing cracks in his house, including the exterior, bedroom, living room and toilet.
“We were relieved after the state government ordered the land reclamation activities to be stopped.
“But we want those responsible to compensate us for the damage,” he said, adding that strong vibrations could be felt inside their houses whenever the lorries passed through the area.
Another resident Abd Rahim Halim, 59, said almost his entire house had developed cracks.
“We only want this problem to be resolved after two years of anxiety. If possible, let the reclamation work be stopped completely so that we can live peacefully.”

Naz said he also now monitors his health more closely, including undergoing regular cancer-marker tests.
