Official: GRS takes Karanaan, Pakatan wins Melalap

KOTA KINABALU: The Election Commission (EC) has confirmed the first two official results of the 17th Sabah state election, announcing victories for Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun in Karanaan and Datuk Jamawi Ja’afar in Melalap.

EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said the respective Returning Officers declared the results for N.37 Karanaan and N.42 Melalap at 10.10pm on Saturday (Nov 29).

In Karanaan, Masidi (GRS) won the seven-cornered fight by defeating Karim Adam (KDM), Anuar Ghani Gilong @ Philip (STAR Sabah), Mukinin @ Mazlan Daiman (Warisan), Md. Nadzmin Kamin (Barisan Nasional), Georgina George (UPKO) and Independent candidate Naomi @ Neomi Francis (Pokok).

In Melalap, Jamawi (Pakatan) emerged victorious over Gabriel George Tulas (Independent – Kuda), Priscella Peter (KDM), Alviana Linus (STAR Sabah), Cheld Lind (Warisan), Junik Bajit (UPKO), Kevin Chong (Parti Impian Sabah) and another Independent candidate, Fatimah (Kunci), in an eight-cornered contest.

Ramlan said the commission was still waiting for confirmation from Returning Officers for the remaining 71 constituencies, noting that the process may take longer in areas with tough terrain and multiple-corner fights.

“The EC guarantees that the official vote-counting process will be conducted transparently, efficiently and strictly in accordance with the law,” he said.
