IPOH: Two teenage girls were killed while a young boy was injured after a car allegedly driven by a man under the influence of drugs crashed into a motorcycle and another car along Jalan Padang Tembak in Teluk Intan here on Sunday (July 26).
Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Chua Kok Lian said the accident occurred at about 6.35pm on Sunday (July 26) when a car driven by a 28-year-old local man is believed to have lost control while attempting to overtake a vehicle in front of him.
“The car then collided with a motorcycle and another car ahead before also hitting a young boy who was by the roadside,” he said in a statement on Monday (July 27).
He said the two teenage girls were pronounced dead at the scene, while the 28-year-old driver and the injured boy were taken to Teluk Intan Hospital for treatment.
ACP Chua said the driver has been detained to assist in investigations.
“Initial urine screening found the suspect tested positive for “benzodiazepine” and he is suspected of driving under the influence of drugs,” he said.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 44(1)(a) and Section 44(1A)(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987, while investigations related to drug offences are also being conducted under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

ACP Chua also reminded motorists to ensure it is safe before overtaking, avoid dangerous driving and always practise prudent driving to ensure the safety of all road users.
