PORT DICKSON: PAS contested at the recently concluded Johor state polls to halt Pakatan Harapan from wresting the state from Barisan Nasional, says PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudeen (pic).
Afnan Hamimi, who is also Perikatan Nasional Youth chief, said the bigger picture was not allowing Pakatan, especially DAP, to hold public office.
“In Johor, we only contested several seats yet Pakatan kept attacking us.
“Even now, they are taking aim at (Kedah Mentri Besar) Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanudi Md Nor when Barisan Nasional is contesting the majority of the seats,” he said during a joint ceramah with Umno Youth in Linggi here on Sunday (July 26) night .
Muhammad Sanusi, who is also Perikatan Nasional election director, recently came under fire for alleged remarks during a ceramah that Tanah Melayu was the ‘homeland’ for the Malays, unlike other ethnic groups.
Afnan Hamimi added that certain quarters fear both Barisan and Perikatan working together as it would result in the failure of certain “plans”.
Both coalitions have an electoral understanding for the Negri Sembilan state polls.
At the Johor polls, PAS reportedly instructed its members and supporters to vote for Umno-Barisan candidates in seats where Perikatan did not contest.
“Politics is not about victory or how many seats can be won. It is about uniting the people and saving the country while putting aside personal interests.
“That is the true meaning of politics, which Pakatan is trying to erase. They know that if we continue, we will bring it from Negri Sembilan to Melaka and later take over Putrajaya,” Afnan Hamimi said.
He added that speaking about the rights of the Malays and Islam does not mean infringing on the rights of other races.
“Look at the Chinese, Indians and other races who have lived in Malay communities. There were no issues, until certain agendas were raised,” he said.
Negri Sembilan heads to the polls on Aug 1.
