Najib's aide’s visit to KL court sparks questions that his RM50mil fine will be paid today

KUALA LUMPUR: The presence of Datuk Seri Najib Razak's special officer Ahmad Lutfi Azhar at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex has sparked questions on whether the former prime minister's RM50mil fine will be paid on Friday (Nov 6).

When approached by The Star, Ahmad Lutfi said, "a statement will be issued once things are processed".

The special officer was seen entering the Criminal High Court registrar's office here and stayed inside for about 10 minutes.

It remains unclear why the former prime minister's aide was present at the court complex as none of Najib's court cases were scheduled for the day.

Around noon, Najib's lawyer Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee was seen at the court complex. He entered the Criminal High Court Registry office with Ahmad Lutfi. Both left the office around 12.10pm.

When asked by The Star what transpired inside the registrar's office, Muhammad Farhan said "got some work to do".

On Sept 18, it was reported that His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia had granted Najib a conditional pardon in his SRC International Sdn Bhd case, allowing him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028.

The order, however, was conditional upon Najib paying the RM50mil fine.

Shortly after, Umno launched the "Najib Razak Solidarity Fund" to crowdfund the RM50mil amount as Najib's personal and family assets remain frozen.
