ALOR GAJAH: The Confidence and Supply Agreement (CSA) is important to ensure that ties between political parties can continue even after an election, without being hampered by hostility arising from differences in political ideologies, says former prime minister Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said the CSA was also not new to the country's political landscape, as a similar agreement was introduced during his administration.
"The CSA is not new. I was the one who initiated it. So, alhamdulillah, ideally, everyone should work together.
"We can certainly be political rivals during an election, but outside the election period, there is no reason for us to continue harbouring animosity,” he told reporters while campaigning in the 16th Melaka State Election in Durian Tunggal here on Friday (Nov 6).
He was commenting on the recent signing of a CSA between the MADANI Government, Bersatu and several independent MPs.
Ismail Sabri said the contents of the CSA did not need to be kept secret, adding that they were made public during his time.
"If the current government wants to disclose it, the people can see what is contained in the agreement,” he said.
The Government signed a CSA on Oct 29 with six Bersatu MPs led by its president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and seven independent MPs, including Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
Under the agreement, all 13 MPs agreed to support the Government administration until the end of the current parliamentary term, including in key votes related to Budget 2027. - Bernama
