MetMalaysia: Storm Senyar weakens, still threatens severe weather (Photo Gallery)

PETALING JAYA: Tropical Storm Senyar has weakened to a low-pressure weather system, according to MetMalaysia.

However, MetMalaysia warned that it still had to potential to cause heavy rain, strong winds and rough seas.

Meanwhile, Bernama reported that the number of flood victims in Selangor, Terengganu, Pahang, Perlis and Perak recorded an increase as of 8am on Friday (Nov 28) morning while Kelantan and Perlis recorded a decrease, while Negeri Sembilan was also hit by floods.

In TERENGGANU, the number of flood victims increased again to 4,191 people from 1,274 families in 60 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) as of 8am, compared to 3,667 people from 1,245 families from the night before.

Based on the Social Welfare Department (JKM) Disaster Information website, Marang district recorded the highest number of victims, namely 1,305 people (367 families) in nine PPS, followed by Kemaman with 1,219 people (323 families) in 13 PPS and Setiu with 1,105 people (393 families) in 21 PPS.

In addition, in Kuala Terengganu, 227 people (98 families) were placed in two PPS; followed by Dungun with 197 people (45 families) in six PPS; Besut with 74 people (30 families) in six PPS and Hulu Terengganu with 64 people (18 families) in three PPS.

Meanwhile, according to the publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my website, the water level at five stations, namely Sungai Dungun in Kuala Jengai, Dungun; Sungai Tebak in Jambatan Tebak, Kemaman; Sungai Tumpat in Kampung Baru, Kemasik, Kemaman; Sungai Chalok at Chalok Bridge, Setiu and Sungai Setiu at Kampung Bukit, Setiu have exceeded the danger level.

In addition, two stations including Sungai Setiu at Kampung Besut, Setiu and Sungai Marang at Pengkalan Berangan Bridge, Marang have exceeded the warning level.

In KEDAH, the number of flood victims increased further to 4,543 people from 1,454 families as of 8am, compared to 4,272 people from 1,412 families the previous night.

According to the Kedah State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), all the victims from the Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar and Pokok Sena districts have been placed in 22 PPS.

Kubang Pasu District recorded the highest number of victims with 2,499 people from 843 families taking shelter in 14 PPS, followed by Kota Setar with 1,928 people (576 families) placed in six PPS and 116 people (35 families) taking shelter in two PPS in the Pokok Sena district.

The same situation also occurred in PERAK when the number of flood victims increased again to 5,861 victims from 1,776 families who are still taking shelter in 45 PPS compared to 5,351 people from 1,637 families from Thursday (Nov 27) night.

The Perak JPBN secretariat informed that Manjung district remained with the highest number of victims, namely 2,270 people from 687 families still placed in 18 PPS.

The number of flood victims in the Hilir Perak district continued to increase to 1,635 people from 502 families who were placed in 10 PPS while the Perak Tengah district recorded a total of 1,418 victims from 407 families.

The Bagan Datuk district recorded a total of 396 victims and Larut, Matang and Selama a total of 117 people and 25 victims are still taking shelter in two PPS in Muallim.

In SELANGOR, the number of flood victims increased to 2,718 people from 719 families on Friday morning compared to 2,603 victims involving 691 families on the previous night.

According to the JKM Infobencana website, a total of 16 PPS are still open involving three districts, namely Klang, Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam.

In Sepang, several areas in Kampung Salak Sepang and Kampung Chingchang were flooded following continuous rain since Thursday.

Assistant Director of the Selangor JBPM Operations Division Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said eight personnel were deployed to monitor the flood situation in Kampung Salak Sepang.

Selangor JBPM also said they were also carrying out monitoring in risky areas in Sepang such as Kampung Labu Lanjut, Pintu Kunci Air Labu Lanjut and Kampung Pinang Sebatang.

In PAHANG, the number of flood victims increased to 486 people from 160 families compared to 63 people from 18 families on Thursday night.

According to JKM's Infobencana, Kuantan became the latest district to be hit by floods with a total of 212 people from 73 families who were placed in seven PPS, while 202 people (66 families) were placed in eight PPS in Raub District and 72 people (21 families) took shelter in four PPS in Lipis District.

In NEGRI SEMBILAN, continuous rain since Thursday evening until early Friday morning has caused flooding in several areas around Port Dickson and two PPS have been opened.

State Civil Defence Force (APM) director Lt Col (PA) Mohd Nazri Mes Kam said that as of 7.30am, a total of 28 victims involving four families had been evacuated to the Sekolah Kebangsaan Jimah Lama PPS and the Permatang Pasir Public Hall.

"The situation is currently under control and we are still collecting more detailed information from relevant parties regarding the incident," he said.

Meanwhile in KELANTAN, flood victims are decreasing, namely 6,318 victims from 2,308 families on Friday morning compared to 7,849 victims the previous night who have now been evacuated to 40 PPS throughout Kelantan.

According to the Kelantan Civil Defence Force (APM) secretariat, Tumpat recorded the highest number of victims with 3,581 people from 1,360 families, followed by Bachok with 1,458 victims (460 families) and Pasir Mas with 217 victims (111 families).

Other districts affected are Machang (450 victims, 172 families), Tanah Merah (312 victims, 102 families), Kuala Krai (222 victims, 75 families) and Gua Musang (100 victims, 28 families). No evacuations were reported in Kota Bharu, Jeli and Pasir Puteh.

So far, two deaths have been recorded, involving one non-citizen victim.

In PERLIS, the number of flood victims recorded a decrease to 7,609 people as of Friday morning compared to 7,624 victims the previous night.

Based on data from the Perlis Disaster Management secretariat as of 8am, a total of 24 PPS are still operating in Padang Besar, Arau and Kangar areas to accommodate all flood victims.
