KUALA LUMPUR: Two MPs were ordered out of the Dewan Rakyat for 30 minutes after a shouting match erupted over allegations of spreading fitnah (slander), forcing Deputy Speaker Alice Lau to intervene repeatedly.
The incident began when Mohd Sany Hamzan (PH-Hulu Langat), during a query to Suhaizan Kaiat (PH-Pulai), criticised lawmakers whom he claimed frequently “peddle slander,” naming Datuk Awang Hashim (PN-Pendang) among them.
Awang immediately invoked Standing Order 36(6), accusing Mohd Sany of making baseless claims and repeatedly slandering opposition MPs.
Their exchange quickly escalated, with both men speaking over one another even after their microphones were muted.
At one point, Mohd Sany challenged “Seranglah” (fight, then) while Awang protested that he had been unfairly attacked.
Amid rising volume and continued shouting of the word “fitnah,” Lau stepped in.
“I order the Honourable Members for Pendang and Hulu Langat to step out for a while,” she said.
When both MPs continued arguing, she instructed the sergeant-at-arms to escort them out, saying, “Leave. Half an hour.”
As they were being removed, one of the MPs was heard saying, “Keluar buat apa? Nak bertumbuk dengan hang?” (Why should I go out? To fight you?).
This prompted Lau to warn: “Don’t invite anyone to fight in the House again.”
Despite Awang later attempting to apologise and asking to resume debating, Lau insisted he leave as ordered.
Order was restored shortly after, allowing Suhaizan to continue his speech on counselling services.
