GOMBAK: Construction work at the affected area where building material crashed onto a moving car has been halted, says Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL).
The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project owner said that a “temporary steel canopy” had fallen along Jalan MRR2 heading towards Batu Caves.
“As a safety measure, all construction work in the affected area has been stopped pending a thorough investigation by the relevant authorities.
“Based on current information, the driver of the involved vehicle is safe.
“ECRL will provide immediate financial assistance to the vehicle owner to ease their burden while awaiting the results of the authorities’ investigation and the related claims process.
“Clean-up and removal of the temporary structure have been successfully carried out under the supervision of the authorities,” it said in a statement yesterday.
It added that the structure that fell was used to prevent construction debris from falling onto the road.
“ECRL is committed to providing full cooperation to all authorities involved in the ongoing investigation and ensuring all safety measures are adhered to.
“Our priority is the safety of road users, the public and project workers.”
Meanwhile, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis said that the driver of the car, a woman, was helped out of the vehicle just as firefighters arrived.
He added that the victim, who was uninjured, did not seek hospital treatment following the afternoon incident.
