KOTA KINABALU: The Federal Government has not backed down from fulfilling Sabah’s constitutional rights, as it fully respects the recent High Court decision confirming the state’s 40% revenue entitlement, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“We did not abandon the 40%. The issue in court was about legal interpretation, not Sabah’s entitlement. We respect the decision,” the Prime Minister said during a youth dialogue called "Temu Anwar - Harapan Urang Muda Sabah" here on Saturday (Nov 15).
Anwar said that the Finance Ministry, along with relevant federal agencies, would hold a meeting on Monday to finalise a fresh recalculation and discuss remaining technical matters linked to the 40% revenue arrangement.
Anwar reiterated the government’s commitment to Sabah’s ongoing development, noting that the state continues to receive substantial allocations for infrastructure, school upgrades, water supply and electricity.
While regulatory control over electricity has been returned to Sabah, the PM said Putrajaya continues to provide significant development funding.
“Even after returning to the regulatory authority, we are still giving RM120mil in development support. Because if Sabah remains poor, our people remain poor,” he said.
Anwar said that some opposition leaders have been fanning public sentiment with wrong or incomplete information, which he warned could mislead the public.
“You can campaign all you want. But don't mislead the people.
"People must understand what really happened. Do not let those who play politics mislead the public,” he said.
He also highlighted the importance of Sabahan youths understanding the facts.
“Young Sabahans need to know and understand the actual situation. You deserve clarity, not confusion.
“You are the ones who will shape this country. Engage with facts, not rumours, and help strengthen our future,” he said.
