Anwar shuffles around talk of changes in Cabinet

PUTRAJAYA: Talk of a Cabinet reshuffle has once again emerged but Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has cheekily avoided questions on the possibility of a change.

As he mingled with students at the Festival of Ideas, the Prime Minister was asked whether a reshuffle was on the cards.

“Either rombak (shuffle) or samba ... If there are suggestions, please let me know,” he quipped with a smile, drawing laughter from the boisterous crowd.

The question came after Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, in his remarks at the event, hinted that his tenure might be ending soon, saying he only had “two or three weeks left” as minister.

“It was just a joke,” he told reporters when asked to explain the remark.

Asked if a Cabinet reshuffle was expected, Zambry replied: “I have no idea. You have to ask the Prime Minister.”

Zambry is among four Cabinet members who are serving as senators and whose terms are due to expire on Dec 2, 2025.

The others are Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar.

Under the Federal Constitution, senators are appointed for a three-year term and may be reappointed once, allowing them to serve a maximum of six years.
