US looks forward to deepening ties with Malaysia, says Rubio in National Day message

KUALA LUMPUR: The United States, one of Malaysia’s top investors and trading partners, looks forward to deepening its relationship with the country in the years ahead, said its Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

In a message in conjunction with Malaysia’s National Day celebration on Aug 31, Rubio said the US and Malaysia have shared a deep and enduring partnership, rooted in strong economic ties, interpersonal bonds, and a shared commitment to freedom of navigation in a free and open Indo-Pacific.

"On behalf of the United States of America, I send my warmest congratulations to the people of Malaysia on the 69th anniversary of Malaysia’s independence.

"On this special occasion, I wish all the people of Malaysia continued peace and prosperity,” he said in a message posted on the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur social media page on Tuesday (Sept 1). — Bernama
