PUTRAJAYA: A total of 18 medical stations have been set up around Dataran Putrajaya to monitor and provide medical care throughout the 2026 National Day celebrations.
National Day Medical Team chief medical officer Dr Nor Azlinawani Hussin said preparations began as early as Aug 22, including the handover of tents and parade training.
Dr Nor Azlinawani, who is also an emergency and trauma medicine specialist at Putrajaya Hospital, said preparations for the main medical command station began in earnest on Aug 24 to support various components of the event, including human graphics and dance rehearsals.
"For this year’s celebrations, 250 medical and healthcare personnel from hospitals around the Klang Valley had been identified, comprising emergency medicine specialists, medical officers, pharmacy officers, assistant medical officers, trained nurses and public service assistants.
"In addition to the 18 emergency medical tents along the parade route, the service is also supported by mobile teams and a medical team stationed at each strategic jetty,” she said when met at the medical centre here on Monday (Aug 31).
A total of 32 ambulances and two Rapid Response Vehicles are on standby for swift action, while Putrajaya Hospital, Sultan Idris Shah Hospital (Serdang) and Cyberjaya Hospital are serving as the main referral hospitals.
Dr Nor Azlinawani said the medical bases were opened as early as 6am on Monday to receive initial cases involving participants and visitors, while a live digital record system (clerking form) was also being used for real-time monitoring.
"The main focus is to ensure that medical assistance is provided quickly, accurately and systematically to dignitaries, participants, personnel and members of the public,” she said, adding that the situation at the site remained under control.
Meanwhile, the Putrajaya Health Office also deployed 25 environmental health officers and assistant environmental health officers to enforce the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024 (Act 852) through health education and friendly reminders to members of the public.
Putrajaya Health Office Inspection and Legal Unit head Dr Nurulhisham Shamsudin said the main focus of the personnel was to raise public awareness about enforcement of the Act around the celebration area.
He said this was important to ensure Putrajaya gradually becomes a zone free from all forms of cigarette smoke, in line with the newly gazetted Act.
"Any action taken so far has been in the form of reminders. If anyone intends to smoke, we immediately approach them and provide a polite reminder and explanation,” he added. – Bernama
