Thunderstorm warning for three states until noon


KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in several areas in Penang, Sarawak and Sabah until noon Tuesday (Sept 1).

In a statement issued at 9am it said that the areas affected are the South-West and North-East districts of Penang, as well as Subis and Miri in Sarawak's Miri division.

In Sabah, the same warning involves Tawau, Semporna, Kalabakan and Kunak.

"Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected in the areas concerned until noon," the statement read.

In a separate statement, MetMalaysia said Tropical Storm Saudel, detected about 1,473km north of Kudat, Sabah, will not have a significant impact locally. – Bernama
