COUPLES in China are resorting to renting gold jewellery for their wedding instead of buying it, as they are put off by the price of gold, which is reaching historic highs, China Press reported.

A woman in Chengdu, known only as Chen, spent only 1,000 yuan (RM593) to rent 50g of gold jewellery for a total of seven days for her recent wedding.

“If I wanted to buy them, it would cost at least 60,000 yuan (RM35,592).

“Since I won’t be wearing them after the wedding, it would have been a waste,” she said.
