Student goes from study hall to MRT stall

A UNIVERSITY student pursuing his degree at the University of Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) was forced to leave his studies and sell food on the streets after both his parents became seriously ill, reported Kosmo!

Muhammad Ashraf Saipul Nizam, 23, made the difficult decision to leave his studies in June last year.

He now sells food in front of the Bukit Bintang MRT station.

“My father used to work as a cook. However, due to health issues including heart problems, kidney disease, and gout, he can no longer be on his feet for long periods.

“My mother has also been paralysed for 19 years and requires full-time care,” he said.

The only child said he had previously worked in smartphone sales before deciding to start a small sandwich business.

He started by selling 10 packs of sandwiches at RM5 each, before increasing the number to 50 packs.

He wakes up at 2am to prepare the sandwiches, while his father cooks fried noodles.

“I managed to make some profit and used the earnings to settle my debts and buy kitchen supplies.

“I really want to continue my studies, but for now, I have to focus on earning a living,” said Ashraf, who hopes to resume his studies at the same university.

> The daily also reported that singer Nubhan was slated to attend the divorce proceedings at Sepang Syariah Court involving his wife, Dr Afifah Hidayah Ahmad Tawfek.

According to a source close to the couple, the application for confirmation of the pronouncement of talaq (dissolution of marriage) was filed by Nubhan, whose full name is Ahmad Nubhan Ahamad, 39, early last month.

When asked about the reason behind the application made by the former Akademi Fantasia Season Six (AF6) contestant, the source declined to comment and suggested that the matter be addressed directly to Nubhan.
