Three teens held over surau donation box theft in Johor

SEGAMAT: Police have arrested three teenagers for allegedly stealing a donation box from a surau here.

Segamat OCPD Supt Ahmad Zamry Marinsah said the Kampung Tanjung Sekawang surau chairman lodged a police report on Oct 3 after discovering that the donation box, containing about RM200, had gone missing.

“Following the information, police arrested three boys aged between 13 and 15 at three separate locations around the district on Monday (Oct 13).

“The stolen donation box was also recovered during the operation,” he said in a statement.

He said all three suspects tested negative for drugs and two of them are still in school.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft, which carries a jail term of up to seven years, or a fine, or both upon conviction.

For subsequent offences, offenders may face imprisonment, fines, and whipping.

Supt Ahmad Zamry added that all three teens have been remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure to assist in investigations.
