Nine illegals nabbed at motorcycle workshops, electrical shops in Johor

JOHOR BARU: The Immigration Department has detained nine undocumented migrants found working at several business premises here.

Johor Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the enforcement operation was carried out at 1pm on Tuesday (Sept 30).

He said the raids, conducted after two weeks of intelligence gathering and public tip-offs, targeted motorcycle workshops and electrical appliance shops that were suspected of employing or harbouring undocumented migrants.

“Checks led to the detention of a Bangladeshi man, an Indonesian man, two Pakistani men, four Indian men and a Myanmar woman, aged 22 to 62.

“They worked as mechanics and sales promoters,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Oct 1).

All of them are being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and have been placed at the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot.

Mohd Rusdi added that a Form 29 notice was also issued to a witness to assist in investigations.

“Further action against employers will be taken after we obtain instructions from the Deputy Public Prosecutor as investigations are still ongoing,” he said.

He stressed that the department would continue to track down foreigners who misuse their passes and facilities to live and work in the country.
