SEREMBAN: The Housing and Local Government Ministry has made history by breaking two records in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) during Hari Cuci Malaysia (HCM) 2025 in Port Dickson on Saturday (Sept 27).
Minister Nga Kor Ming said the two records were the Largest Gotong-Royong Participation involving 100,817 participants nationwide and (Collecting the) Most Used Cooking Oil in a single day, which amounted to 27,679.31kg with a sales value of RM79,684.56.
"This achievement broke the record for HCM's Gotong-Royong Participation last year, which stood at 58,007 participants. The ministry also managed to create a new MBOR record by collecting the Most Used Cooking Oil from 10 states namely Johor, Kedah, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Selangor, Terengganu and Kuala Lumpur," he said in a statement here on Sunday.
Nga said the MBOR certificate was received by the ministry’s deputy secretary-general (management and development) Datuk Mohd Zamri Mat Zain, from MBOR representative Siti Hajar Johor on Saturday, which was also World Cleanup Day.
Nga said Malaysia Cleaning Day or HCM 2025 also recorded a gotong-royong waste collection of 6,462 metric tons of solid waste collected nationwide, including discarded plastic, garden waste, wood and paper, textile and other waste material.
Meanwhile, Nga said this cleanliness campaign not only set a new historical record, but shone through the unity of the people.
"It reflects the people's commitment that cleanliness is a shared responsibility for the well-being of current and future generations," he said.
He said the success of these two MBOR records points the commitment of all Malaysians to a culture of cleanliness and environmental sustainability in line with Malaysia's aspiration for a clean and sustainable future.
The programme, which is the culmination of the national cleanliness agenda, brought together thousands of volunteers from all walks of life to jointly carry out gotong-royong, cleaning and recycling activities.
The success of HCM 2025 saw widespread participation across the country, encompassing other stakeholders including government agencies, local authorities, educational institutions, local communities, cleaning companies (SWM), housing developers (PR1MA and SPNB), industry associations, private companies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), making it the country's largest gotong-royong venture. - Bernama
