PETALING JAYA: E-hailing industry players are happy that they have not been limited to just 300 litres of petrol a month under the Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95) programme.
However, concerns persist over potential abuse by part-time drivers.
The higher ceiling for e-hailing drivers is crucial for them to survive financially, said Grab Drivers Malaysia Association president Mohd Azril Ahmat.
“While 300 litres a month should be enough for most road users, it is definitely not be enough for e-hailing drivers who drive constantly for most of their day.
“I am very happy that the government did not forget about us,” he said.
However, Mohd Azril said he was concerned that some people may sign up as part-time e-hailing drivers just to abuse the exemption.
“For now, we have to see if a mechanism will be in place to stop such practices,” he added.
Malaysian e-Hailing Association chief activist Jose Rizal also welcomed the announcement by the Prime Minister that RON95 pump prices would be reduced to RM1.99 per litre, with a ceiling of 300 litres for all Malaysians, except e-hailing drivers.
Jose said the exemption provides relief to more than 200,000 e-hailing drivers nationwide.
“With the flexibility to apply for higher subsidy allocations according to actual needs, e-hailing drivers will be better protected from cost-of-living pressures,” he said.
