KLANG, July 30 (Bernama) – A former part-time event planning assistant has been charged in the Magistrate's Court here with murdering of a p-hailing delivery rider.
Low Kean Peng, 35, nodded to indicate he understood the charge after it was read before Magistrate A. Karthiyayini.
However, no plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
According to the charge, Low is accused of murdering Zulfiqar Zamir Amirul Nizam, 27, at Persiaran Kota here at 12.30am on May 13.
He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years upon conviction. If the death penalty is not imposed, the offender shall also be sentenced to not fewer than 12 strokes of the cane.
The court fixed Oct 21 for further mention of the case.
During proceedings, Magistrate A. Karthiyayini granted Low a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) on a charge under the Road Transport Act 1987 of driving under the influence of alcohol and causing grievous injury to the late Zulfiqar.
He had been accused of driving with an alcohol level of 196mg per 100ml of blood, causing grievous injury to the victim at Persiaran Kota here at 12.35am on May 13.
When first brought before the same court on May 18, Low pleaded not guilty to the charge. – Bernama
