SEPANG: Poor governance has led to current issues plaguing Kampung Sungai Baru and other matters, says Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.
“The planning was not thorough. Those that were staying on the land were also perhaps not aware of the risk of agreeing to the land to be developed.
“This lack of understanding and governance has now led to the people suffering,” he said in his speech during the closing of the National Conference on Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption on Friday (Sept 19).
Azam said that the same had occurred with para shuttler Cheah Liek Hou who claimed he was promised a RM60,000 incentive for capturing gold in the Paris Paralympics but has yet to receive it.
“I’m not saying that he is right or wrong but he has come out and said that the reward was not paid to him. That is his claim and there are parties who have already responded.
“But to me I see this as a matter of governance. Perhaps it was not understood properly or there was not good governance that should be followed,” he said.
He added that the emergence of e-sport will also lead to potential governance issues in the future.
