PETALING JAYA: Investigations into a “counter setting” syndicate led to the seizure of jewellery and gold pieces worth around RM2mil.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said six people had been arrested under the latest operation.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya said a total of 3.2kg of jewellery worth RM1.6mil and 75 gold pieces worth around RM400,000 were seized in the raid conducted from Sept 9 to Sept 11.

In a statement on its official TikTok page, he said five of the suspects arrested were Immigration Department officers.

It is believed that they received bribes from agents as payment for easing the entry of foreign workers.

The arrests were part of an intelligence-led operation dubbed Ops Rentas.
