Anwar calls for global unity to defend dignity, end violence


KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on the Arab-Islamic world and the international community to rise and unite in defending dignity, ending violence and safeguarding global security.

In a Facebook post Sunday (Sept 14) night, Anwar said Israel's attack on Qatar was clear proof that Zionist cruelty knew no bounds.

"They have not only oppressed the Palestinian people for decades, but now threaten the sovereignty of Arab and Islamic countries as a whole. If Qatar can be attacked, then no nation is truly safe from their threats.

"This attack against Qatar clearly proves that Zionist cruelty knows no limits. Malaysia strongly condemns this oppressive act," he said in the post, which was accompanied by several photographs of his departure for Doha to attend the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit.

Anwar will deliver Malaysia's National Statement to express solidarity with Qatar.

He stressed that Malaysia would not yield or remain silent as long as such oppression continued, and would always stand with the oppressed people of Palestine.

Earlier, the special aircraft carrying the Prime Minister left the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Subang Air Base at 7pm Sunday.

Anwar is attending the emergency summit at the invitation of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, following the Israeli attack on the country on Sept 9.

The strike in the Leqtaifiya area, involving about 15 Zionist fighter jets, killed six people, including the son of senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya, his office director (manager), and a Qatari security officer, while Hamas' top leaders reportedly survived. - Bernama
