SPM candidate killed in multi-vehicle accident in Kulai

KULAI: A Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidate died when he crashed his motorcycle on the way to school near here.

Kulai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Seng Lee said the incident occurred at KM6 of Jalan Kulai–Kota Tinggi and involved another motorcycle, a car and a lorry at about 7.15am on Wednesday (Sept 10).

“The motorcycle ridden by the 17-year-old male student lost control and rammed into the rear of another motorcycle ridden by a 54-year-old man.

“The impact caused both motorcycles to scrape against a car driven by a 20-year-old woman,” he said in a statement.

ACP Tan added that the motorcycles were then thrown into the opposing lane and a lorry, driven by a 59-year-old man, could not avoid them and rammed into the vehicles.

“The student was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries to his body.

“The other motorcyclist suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Hospital Temenggung Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim in Kulai for treatment,” he said.

ACP Tan said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He urged members of the public with information on the incident may contact the investigating officer Inspector Ahmad Safuan Abu Naim at 017-7573507 or head to the traffic investigation and enforcement division at the Kulai district police headquarters.
