
ISKANDAR PUTERI: A public hospital and health clinic in Segamat that suffered minor damage from a recent mild earthquake are operating as normal.
Johor health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon (pic) said minor damage suffered included a collapsed ceiling but no injuries were recorded.
"The recent earthquake did not cause any structural damage. Related agencies will carry out repairs as soon as possible," he said when met by reporters after witnessing a memorandum of understanding for a private healthcare facility in Forest City here on Tuesday (Sept 9).
Ling said he told the Johor Health Department to ensure higher preparedness at healthcare facilities in the event of similar incidents.
He added that the state government had also directed the Segamat disaster management committee to coordinate and conduct drills involving various agencies and departments to better respond to natural disasters.
On Monday (Sept 8), Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said it would cost an estimated RM550,500 to fix minor damage to 15 government buildings following the earthquakes that hit Segamat from Aug 24 to 30.
The findings came from an inspection by the Segamat Public Works Department completed Sept 3 on buildings including the Segamat Hospital, Bandar Putra Health Clinic, Segamat Community College, District Kadi Office, schools and government quarters.
