Pasir Mas, Segamat latest to face yellow heatwave alert, 3 Kedah districts remain under orange alert


PETALING JAYA: Pasir Mas in Kelantan and Segamat in Johor are the latest localities nationwide hit by the heatwave, with a yellow (Level 1) alert issued there as at 4pm on Wednesday (March 25).

According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), Level 1 alerts are issued when temperatures range between 35°C and 37°C for at least three consecutive days.

Heatwave alerts were also issued for 21 localities nationwide with the bulk being in the northern states of Kedah, Penang, Perak and Perlis.

In Kedah, an orange (Level 2) heatwave alert continues to be issued for Baling, Pendang and Pokok Sena.

Level 2 alerts are issued when temperatures range between 37°C and 40°C for at least three consecutive days.

Other localities with Level 1 alerts in Kedah are Sik, Padang Terap, Kubang Pasu, Pulau Langkawi, Kuala Muda, Kulim and Bandar Baharu.

In Penang, sweltering conditions continue in Daerah Utara and Timur Laut, with Level 1 alerts issued.

Alerts were also issued for Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Perak Tengah and Hulu Perak in Perak, Jerantut in Pahang as well as the state of Perlis.

On a related matter, alerts were also issued for 10 dams nationwide.

Water levels at the Muda dam in Kedah continue to deplete, standing at only 7.72% of its full capacity as of press time.

The Timah Tasoh dam in Perlis meanwhile has reached warning levels, with it only being at 38.1% of its full capacity.

Cautions were also issued for the Ahning, Beris and BN Padang Saga dams as water levels there were at 54.72%, 59.69% and 60.9% of capacity, respectively.

In Perak, the Bukit Merah dam is at 38.31% capacity.

Water levels at four dams in Johor have also reached caution levels.

They are Labong (60.1%), Gunung Pulai 2 (47.78%), Upper Layang (43.43%) and Lebam (57.52%).
