Thunderstorms and heavy rain forecast for five states

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across five states, effective until 9am on Friday (Aug 28).

In the central and southern regions, the weather alert covers coastal Selangor, specifically Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Klang, Kuala Langat and Sepang, alongside Port Dickson in Negeri Sembilan.

In Perak, severe weather is expected in Bagan Datuk.

On the east coast, the warning affects Kemaman in Terengganu and Kuantan in Pahang.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when there are signs indicating a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for any single release.

The notice was officially issued by the department at 5.20am today.
